Description
Job Goal: To assist Literacy Specialist/Coordinator and site principal to provide ongoing
support for new teachers with 3 or less years of service, as well as support
teachers implementing Leading and Learning (L&L) innovations. The Literacy
Mentor works with district-level and school-level staff to ensure all students
receive high quality literacy instruction and to increase the population of highly
effective teachers. The Literacy Mentor will spend approximately 80% of his/her
time directly supporting new teachers or new in their content area.
Job Description:
School Culture and Collaboration:
Partner with the principal to foster a culture of sharing, caring, and collaboration within the school and across the parish.
Teacher Support (80% of Time):
Devote the majority of the work week to directly supporting teachers through observations, modeling lessons, co-teaching (particularly in 8th-grade intervention), and providing timely, constructive feedback.
Data-Driven Literacy Support:
Assist staff in analyzing and using data (including DIBELS) to determine appropriate interventions and instructional supports.
Track grants and student progress through platforms such as MClass.
Support staff with developing instruction that enhances reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
New Teacher Mentorship:
Provide targeted support to new teachers in core academic subjects including English Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies, and Science.
MTSS Leadership:
Lead MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings to help identify student needs and align academic and behavioral interventions.
Professional Collaboration:
Assist in ELA collaboration during Common Planning sessions.
Attend Fall and Spring Regional Literacy Meetings to stay aligned with state and district literacy initiatives.
Instructional Leadership:
Assist the site administrator with informal classroom observations.
Provide demonstration lessons, model effective instructional strategies, and guide reflection and refinement.
Reporting & Communication:
Gather and compile data for reports detailing program implementation and progress toward literacy goals.
Maintain a detailed weekly activity log for self-reflection and accountability.
Meet at least monthly with district leaders and literacy mentors to ensure alignment and progress.
Accountability:
Report directly to the District Literacy Specialist and Principal.

Requirements
Qualifications:
• Valid Louisiana teaching certificate
• Master's or advanced degree in Education preferred
• Minimum of 3 effective years of experience as a certified ELA teacher
• Science of Reading trained or plan to complete training within the calendar year
